Under the Awning: Nina MacLaughlin: Thursday, June 18th, 6p
What is summer made of? The smell of cut grass behind the gasoline of a lawn mower. Ponds, lakes, and oceans. The first swim. A sunburn. Fat red tomatoes sliced thin and salted. Stargazing, spooning, and sleeping with the windows open. Fireflies.
We're thrilled to welcome local author, Nina MacLaughlin as she reads from her 2020 release, Summer Solstice: An Essay. Gather with us under Pod's awning. The reading will begin at 6p. Standing room only.
Nina MacLaughlin is the author of Wake, Siren: Ovid Resung, a finalist for the Lambda Literary Award and the Massachusetts Book Award, as well as Summer Solstice and Winter Solstice, winner of the Massachusetts Book Award. Her first book was the acclaimed memoir Hammer Head: The Making of a Carpenter, a finalist for the New England Book Award. Formerly an editor at the Boston Phoenix, she worked for nine years as a carpenter, and then as a books columnist for the Boston Globe, and her column on New England Literary News continues in newsletter form. Her work has appeared on or in The Paris Review Daily, n+1, The Believer, The New York Times Book Review, the Los Angeles Review of Books, and elsewhere. Most recently, she collaborated with the artist Celeste Dupuy-Spencer in Burning in the Eyes of the Maker- a powerful collection of Dupuy-Spencer’s electrifying paintings, paired with lyrical, incisive text by MacLaughlin. This publication will be released in July.

Shopping. Fundraising. Join us December 6th & 7th!
This annual holiday event is especially important because we donate a portion of our weekend sales to Rosie's Place, a local organization whose mission is close to our hearts.
Rosie's Place was founded in 1974 as the first women's shelter in the United States. Located in Boston, their mission is to provide a safe and nurturing environment that helps poor and homeless women maintain their dignity, seek opportunity, and find security in their lives.
Today, in its 51st year, Rosie's Place is a multi-service community center that offers women emergency shelter and meals, and so much more: a food pantry, ESOL classes, legal assistance, wellness care, one-on-one support, housing and job search services, and community outreach. Here women will find support, opportunity and the tools they need to make a new start.
Rosie's Place relies SOLELY on the generous support of individuals, foundations, and corporations and DOES NOT accept any city, state, or federal funding.
So what's going on besides making a dent in your gift lists?

Where's Papa?
Join us Sunday, October 19th from noon-4p as we welcome Josh Pierson of Papa’s Catch Salmon.

During the rest of the year, they distribute their salmon in the greater Northeast until they run out sometime in the spring. Papa’s Catch offers sustainably-caught, wild Alaskan sockeye salmon. Harvested in Bristol Bay, Alaska, which boasts the largest and healthiest wild sockeye salmon run on the planet, Papa’s Catch takes pride in providing a sustainable product that nourishes individuals and communities alike.
Aside from filling CSA pickups and pre-order pickup, Josh will be selling salmon fillets on site—whole and portioned—that have been de-boned, vacuum packaged and flash frozen. The freshness and quality is un-matched!
